BUILD Inc. — Winnipeg, MB
BUILD Inc. (Building Urban Industries for Local Development) is an Indigenous non-profit social enterprise contractor and training organization based in Winnipeg.
They deliver services in renovation, maintenance, and affordable housing upgrades while operating a six- to seven-month paid training program designed to support people who face employment barriers — including those with limited formal work experience, criminal records, or other challenges.
Through mentorship, certification, and on-site practicum work, BUILD equips trainees with tools, life skills, and trade competencies.

Purpose Construction — Winnipeg, MB
Purpose Construction is a non-profit delivering residential and commercial renovation, and retrofit services.
They focus on training and employing people who face barriers to entering the skilled trades by integrating employment pathways directly into project work.
Purpose Construction also operates in collaboration with Purpose Homes, building high-performance, and energy-efficient housing in Winnipeg’s. Through each home built, they provide on-site training and skill development.

Building Up — Toronto, ON
Building Up is a non-profit social enterprise that combines construction contracting with a paid trades training program for individuals facing barriers to employment.
Participants receive classroom instruction, hands-on site experience, and wrap-around supports (mentorship, career coaching, soft skills).
Graduates often enter permanent trades employment, apprenticeship pathways, or continue working in construction roles.
Building Up also acts as a contractor for housing retrofit and renovation project

Community Builders — Barrie, Sudbury, Saulte Ste. Marie
Offering general contracting, custom homebuilding, renovations, off-site modular housing, and “second suites” development, Community Builders integrates construction excellence with social impact. The organization provides paid pre-employment training and on-the-job experience for individuals facing employment barriers, helping them gain the skills, confidence, and credentials needed to succeed in the trades.
Their Trades & Diversity Program has received strong municipal and community support, reflecting a shared commitment to addressing the skilled trades shortage, promoting workforce inclusion, and advancing affordable housing solutions across Simcoe County and Northern Ontario.

Embers Staffing connects employers with skilled and unskilled labour placements while reinvesting profits into training and community supports.
Placing workers in sectors like construction, warehousing, events, administration, and property maintenance.
Embers provides both soft and hard skills training —such as traffic management, fall protection, first aid, and equipment certification.
With a mission to empower individuals facing barriers to work, Embers blends service delivery with social impact, reinforcing that employment is a central driver of community resilience.

Skoden Flex Staffing offers staffing solutions in Winnipeg and its surrounding areas.
Specializing in providing entry-level, safety-certified labour for construction, demolition, warehousing, and related sectors.
One of Skoden’s defining features is its “no penalty” policy which allows clients to transition Skoden workers into their own teams without typical buyout or recruitment fees—creating smoother pathways to stable employment.
By combining recruitment, training, and labour supply, Skoden strengthens local capacity, supports labour inclusion, and reduces barriers between individuals and sustained work.

Build Up Saskatoon is a social enterprise of Quint Development Corporation that provides quality construction, renovation, and maintenance services while creating employment opportunities for individuals facing barriers to work in the trades.
Through mentorship, skills training, and on-the-job experience, Build Up helps its crew members build confidence and long-term careers, strengthening both the construction industry and the local community.

BEEP — Brandon, MB
The Brandon Energy Efficiency Program (BEEP), operated by the Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation (BNRC), is a social enterprise that improves housing energy efficiency while creating employment opportunities for people facing barriers to work. Since its launch, BEEP has retrofitted over 400 homes, helping low-income households reduce utility costs and improve comfort.
Participants gain hands-on experience in insulation, air sealing, and water-saving upgrades while earning certifications that support long-term employment in the construction and retrofit industries. BEEP demonstrates how community-based solutions can reduce emissions, cut costs, and build sustainable careers in the trades.
